A Treatise on the Spirit
By: High Priest V'kaalli Shabbaha, Faithful Servant of Primus
PrefaceI am V'kaalli called Shabbaha, a priest of the Great Father, Primus. I feel the worlds above and below would be served well to have a better understanding of the Spirit which gives us life. This divine gift should never be taken lightly, nor should you simply discard the notion as so many mages do by calling it simply an 'energy form'. The Spirit is much more than that, and without it those same mages would be powerless, and no better than animals. So please, read what I have to say, if only to better understand that which makes you who you are.
Introduction
The Spirit of any person is a two-fold thing, and should be considered as such. The first part is what gives us identity, which I will call the Soul. This is what generates thought and connects us to where our dreams come from. The second part is the Elementus, which is given to each person upon birth. This is the part which allows us to use magic, though arguably magic-use wouldn't be possible without the thoughts of the Soul.
Soul
As I believe it is more important, I will first take a look at the Soul. This is what seperates higher beings from common animals. The Soul gives us thought, inspiration, and a conscience. This is also the part of us which continues on after we have died, travelling from this realm to another beyond. However, the Soul can be used for evil intentions as well. Necromancers warp the energy of the Soul to reanimate zombii, burn the flesh, and create twisted monstrosities. Whenever I see something like this my heart aches, for I know some poor Soul has been torn to pieces and will be denied its final rest. For these effects different parts of the Soul are used.
a.) The Core - The core is the raw energy of Creation which the energies that compose the Spirit form around. My personal belief is that these energies still flow from the Father himself, though I will not use this as a pulpit to tell the word of Primus. Necromancers create the Eldritch Flame with the Core, and also reanimate zombii.
b.) The Psyche - This is what some would call one's mind. The thoughts of the Soul come here, which seem drawn to the Cores of animals given the gift of Intelligence and Thought. This is the part of the Spirit which Telepaths can grip and control, should their will be strong enough.
c.) The Shell - This is the outermost portion of the spirit, and seems to control physical attributes of a person. Illusionists create false Shells to accomplish their feets. Necromancers manipulate the Shells of the dead in order to twist the flesh of zombii and graft dead flesh to themselves. This is also the part that the Elementus connects to at birth and is sundered from by death.
Elementus
The second part of the Spirit is what gives us our individual elements, so it is commonly called the Elementus. This is energy which attaches itself to the Soul upon the birth of a person, giving the new Soul strength to survive. The Elementus also allows for the control of Elemental Magics. Wizards, clerics, bards, and summoners all use their Elementus to control the energies all around us in Fou Lu. This is why magic can be dangerous at times, as you use part of your Spirit to focus energy which may be more than you can control. So please, be careful with your Elementus.
