Appearance: Generally all Abhors are similar in size and appearance. All of the Abhor’s are between 4 and 5 feet tall, save for one or two rare Abhor. And by rare I seriously mean two total. Their skin is a reptilian scaly skin, which varies in color and texture by continent. Their ears and noses are both much larger than a human’s in proportion, and they too vary by continent.
The Fire continent bears Abhor’s with lumpy skin. They generally have larger scales, but the scales are smooth and rounded. The ears of a Fire Abhor tend to be a bit different. Their ears are pointed up and backwards. Mostly backwards, and the point of the ear never points higher than the head of the Abhor in this subspecies. The coloration of these Abhors tend to be darker with brightly colored speckles on them. Their ears are generally 6” long, and about 4” wide. Ear length is measured from the center of the base to the apex of the ear, while length is from highest point of attachment to the head, across the center, to the furthest point on the ear, while still connected to the head. The length of a Fire continent’s Abhor protrudes from the face approximately 6” from his face. Generally, the fire continent Abhor likes to wear loose fitting thin robes of light colors, both protecting them from the sun and keeping in with tradition. The Males generally cover their heads, while the females do not. They wear small headpieces that go in between the ears from right between the eyes till the top of the back of the neck.
Abhors of the Water continent tend to be rather tall. They are the only ones, other than one from the Air continent that have been measured at over 4’ 10”, and have boasted one of the two that beat 5’ tall. Their skin tends to be very smooth, and their scales tend to be large. The scales however have small glands that secrete an oily liquid that helps them remain buoyant. The scales tend to be a light blue to greenish blue. The scales, because of this liquid, when exposed to water cling to each other trapping air in between them, and cause the buoyancy. This makes their skin seem very smooth to the touch. The ears of a Water continent’s Abhor stick straight out to the side, and are about 6” long like those of the Fire continent, and 3” wide, tapering off much faster than a Fire continent’s Abhor. The noses are much larger than many other continents, measuring in generally 8” from his face. The Water Abhor’s favored clothing is a tight fitting tunic, and pants that match with the skin tone. They also favor jewelry almost more than the Earth continent’s. They prefer thin chains of gold, and bright colored jewels.
Abhors hailing from the Earth continent tend to be shorter with powerful builds. They represent the opposite end of the spectrum from the Water continent. They tend to be between 4’ to 4’ 3” tall. Their scales are generally Earth tones because that is what makes sense. Their scales are also frilled and very small, making their skin very scratchy, but seeming like human skin at a distance. The frills on their scales are very small as well, so no worries about deep wounds from them. Their ears are between 6” and 9” long, generally those in better health having longer ears. Their ears are also about 5” wide, and pointed straight out like those of the water continent. They have noses that are generally on the small side, for Abhors anyway, and are about 4 to five inches long. Their clothing is generally either an armor, or simply loose pants. The pants are generally held up with a wide belt, which is adorned with various gems and large belt buckles. They use this as a show of class. They also like to adorn their hands with many rings and bracelets.
Those from the Air continent are those who are usually credited with being 'average' height. They are generally from 4’ 3” tall to 4’ 7” tall. However, one of them was over 5’ tall, and his descendants are slightly taller, but that was long ago making them about 4’ 3” to 4’ 8”. They are no more spindly than the general Abhor, and they usually have very light colored skin, with small scales lacking the frills of an Earth Abhor. Their ears are very small for an Abhor, and pointed straight up, facing somewhere between forward and to the sides. These ears are about 5” long, and 3” wide. Their ears are topped with small spikes of bright colors, ranging from red to blue. A small minority has white spikes. There are usually between 4 and 6 small spikes. Their noses are approximately 6” out from their face, and hook downwards, with a hanging thing at the tip. The clothing fashions on the Air continent are very flowing. Everything flows, baggy clothing and capes; that’s what they like.
Finally, the psychics have the oddest variation of scales. Their scales are translucent, shimmering in the light. Their skin right below the scales is white. This shows through, and the usual misconception is that the psychic Abhor has white scales, but it is simply the seeing of the skin through the scales. Their scales are small, but not as small as the Earth Abhor’s scales. Their ears point out straight, and are the widest, at about 8” wide, and only 5” long. The noses of psychic Abhors vary the most and go anywhere from 5” to 9” long. It is said that the longer noses tend to be better casters, but that is unsubstantiated. Their clothing tend to be loose fitting, but light colored robes with some adornments such as shoulder pads and some gems.
Abilities: Abhor are very treacherous and sneaky. They tend to be less attached to their fellows and able to abandon things and move on more readily than other races. At times they may seem selfish, and they are. They are unafraid to kill or steal for what they want. They do that often too, and are generally good at thieving and similar classes and occupations. Their lack of physical strength is overwhelmed by their agility, and while they might not be among the strongest and brightest of races, their minds have a very strong survival instinct. They thus are able to put themselves in the mindset of him or me much easier than other people. This makes them much better at being assassins and thieves than most things.
History: Abhors are among the most mysterious races, having been living underground for a long time. But it was not always that way. Their was a time when Abhor’s lived above ground, with humans and the rest of them, but their existence seemed more unsavory with each passing day, their populace becoming victim to their own race’s gangs and violence. The other races advanced on them with their armies, but no blood was shed, as their survival instinct came into play and they fled underground.
Transportation: Since they live underground, the Abhors do not use airships quite so much as other races, but they have developed many interwoven series of mine shafts since their retreat to the underground.
Religion: Not all Abhor throw themselves largely into religion, but each element is attributed to a specific god or goddess, and they usually at least pay lip service to their particular deity. Volkain, Aidon, Thanatos, Mercu, and Dio are all worshipped on their respective continents. A few still follow the mystery cults of the way back when they were unorganized tribes, and ponder the mysteries of the universe.
Language: Abhors have their own distinct language, but it has absorbed more and more common tongue. This has made some of the Abhor’s upset as they feel they are losing their culture. There are a few purist Abhors out there that only speak the old Abhor, which was a series of clicks and hums. But since those days it has progressed to a phonetic language with few clicks. They also have a unique written language, which seems to be a combination of phonetic and pictographs. The letters each represent a syllable in their language, which has caused many young Abhor’s to learn the Common written language, ignoring the older written language, but in many institutions only the older written language is used.
Society: The entirety of Abhor culture was lost when the Abhor's were retreated underground, and has been degrading more and more since. Their tradition seems to live on strongest in the Fire continent where a few have remained above ground in very uninviting territories. Their traditions are vaguely matriarchal, and based on the old religion. They generally have marriages between two, one male and one female. However, on rare occasions, a female is allowed to take on a second male, but generally it is only one.
In The World: Abhors are generally ignored in mass politick, and are mainly just a side note in the entirety of Fou Lu. They DO however, have slight effect on politics without being noticed, as they do make great assassins, and are generally the more popular of the job.
