The Silver Hammers
Base: The main research headquarters is based in the capital of the Derendil Empire, Sha-Liden, they have sites on most of the major mountains in deisach, including Dio's Tower, Mt. Alassus, and Mt. Bram, for gathering of ores.
History: The Silver Hammers was formed by a dwarf named Berg Kharlin, a very successful and famous blacksmith, when he merged his blacksmithing business with five other prominent blacksmiths. The merger was highly profitable, no more competition to be spoken of, and with the booming wars, their weapons and armor were in high demand.
The organization used their funds to research better methods of metallurgy, to remove the impurities of their steel. in 450 AR they developed a new method of smelting steel, called the blast furnace. With this method, their steel was created harder, and more durable than before. in 550 AR they created the method of smelting that is still used today, called Crucible steel. This was an amazing advancement, but with the wars petering out, the funds that were coming in abundance, began trickling in, almost to a stop.
Within the organization, this research had become a sort of ideology, the higher ups became more devoted to the research than they were to the profit. As the funds became more and more scarce, the organization realized they had poured far too many funds into too many research projects. They soon went nearly bankrupt.
In 650 AR, with the organization headed by one of Berg's decendants, Olis Kharlin, the organization was within weeks of disbanding when a sizeable ammount of Mithril was discovered at Mt. Bram. Aproximately 500 pounds of Mithril were excavated and returned to The Silver Hammers' main base. Three blades were created out of the mithril, and sold to various kingdoms for insufferably high prices. And again the organization was back in business.
With the recent fortune created, A special research, headed by several of the Organization's Magi, and overseen personally by Olis was started. A steel-mithril Alloy. Using the crucible Form of smelting, they were able to completely remove the carbon from the Iron, and replace it with 2% Mithril. This is only one advancement made by them, and they have yet to sell any of the products from it, awaiting another war, when profit will be at a maximum, and even then they will not release more than 1000 products worldwide.
Now, in 760 AR, the organization is led by a board of directors, and research is held in the areas of Gunsmithing, Metallurgy, as well as conventional weapons and armor forging. The company has a staff of 1000, consisting of Water,Fire, and Air magi, as well as master blacksmiths, and leaidng scientists.
Unlike the Cosmologists, The organization keeps their techniques a secret, and only sell the products of it, to ensure that they will forever have people to sell to.
The Silver Hammers' prime rival is the School Uldun'Dio, a professional and sometimes personal hatred between the two companies formed when Durbag destroyed a prototype suit of armor they had developed, to lower their reputation and raise his. They have an entire department devoted to tracking all public achievements by Durbag and his school, and make sure that The Silver Hammers' projects are released at the same time or near the same time.
