The Science of Magic
By Archmagus Dr. Alan d'Bryant
Introduction
Among the various sciences and mathematics of Fou Lu there is the world-moving force of magic. Magical energies are at the very base of existence in this world and even compose the very Gods themselves. A dedication to the life of a magic user will allow you to delve into the foundation of existence, but it will throw more questions at you than answers. If you live long enough, though, you will learn more than you can imagine.
Basic Elements - These are the Elements of Fou Lu.
Earth The workings of the magic in Deisach lie everywhere magi stand. Every element of the earth beneath our feet is the plaything of magi of Earth. One of the most subtle magics, and powerful, both living plants and dead stones combine to create this multifaceted magic.
Air The wind and storms, the tornados and hurricanes, the raw lightning. All these fall in the spellbook of the Valanthian Mage. Able to send pure electric power to his enemies, and stir up the winds in a moment. The swift power of air make these mages more powerful than you'd think.
Fire Ercian magic, the abilities and personality of fire. Pure destructive force sits in the capable hands of whoever wields this magic. With it's dominion over liquid magma, inner fire, and the very sun itself, Fire Mages remain some of the most feared among all circles.
Water The Magic of Andriath, the power held in water. Often suspected as being weak, really a powerful, though subtle magic. Its magic has the unique ability to spread throughout all forms of water, liquid, solid, and gas. A formidable and useful magic.
Psychic The mind sees what it wants to believe. And if that happens to be an illusion brought on from a creative illusionist, or the mental twisting of a skilled telepath, Psychich Magic is one of the most subtle and deadly magics in the world, as equally damaging to the psyche as to the body.
Casting Subdivisions - These are unique branches of Elemental-based Magics.
Clerical Clerical magic is practiced mostly by priests and zealots of a church, though some will learn simple healing spells to help in battle. Healing is the primary thing that Clerical magic is known for, but there is more to it.
Necromantic Shunned by many, including Althena, and simply disgusting others, including the other Gods, Necromancy is believed to have originated as a perversion of Clerical magic, though most Necromancers deny this. Many know Necromancers for the creation of zombies, but there are other aspects to the magic as well.
Enchanting
Enchanting is the art of instilling certain properties into an object using elemental energies. It can produce wonderous objects, though when the untrained mage tries to cast enchantments beyond his grasp the consequences can be explosive.
Animism This is the art of creating golems. A golem can be any inanimate object that is animated by Elemental energies though they are usually crafted for a specific reason. No matter what the object is or how it is crafted the Elemental energies tend to affect the basic form of the object.
Summoning Divided itself into the Inside and Outside subdivisions Summoning is one of the most difficult arts in the Elemental magics. Whether simply calling animals across a distance or pulling beings of pure Elemental energy from the homes of the Gods Summoning requires intense concentration and study.
