Skyrudder
Location: Along the coast of eastern Valanthus, almost directly east of the Everlasting Storm.
Description: Skyrudder exists almost as two separate cities acting in unison; one half of the village operating on the water, with small, wooden huts, fishing marts and docks on every side open to the water; and the other, operating on the land, producing most of the cities Grain and seconding as an Airship stop for smaller, non-commercially run Airships. All the building were designed two stories and circular in design, the second floor more of just a ring with an open center to gaze down on the floor below. Only the Inn's, or the houses of those with families, had any sort of separation of room.
History: Skyrudder's existence has only been about three hundred years, and was designed with the idea of harmony. Ironically, only Elves and Humans really really wanted this idea, so the two races were the primary drive behind the village. The village's popularity was only really boosted about three hundred and fifty years after the start of the Age of Mortal Wars, as a haven for those who chose not to fight; chose not to take sides. It's said that a cult of sorts originated from this small town and some of its founding members, and the purpose of this group was to spread the word of longing. The exact details are lost to anyone outside they village and anyone living in the village already knows the word...
The city is not without its secrets. The community is a tight nit group, but they are a welcoming society to anyone who believes in Hope, or in Home. Their popularity was boosted once again more recently by the taming of the Airee-Airee birds, two legged creatures that could run on water and air, which served as a small boost in their economy. However, due to the rarity of the birds yet and their delicate nature, the citizens of Skyrudder are very prude in just who they sell these birds too. However, for some coin, they can just ride…
On top of that, the city's rising fame can be attributed to its almost flawless weather. With the Everlasting Storms off in the distant horizon, you would figure that Skyrudder would be riddled with storms; but it is, in fact, quite the opposite. Skyrudder is a city set immersed in the sunlight, with little, if ever, clouds. They get storms for a seasonal period, which attributes to their grain growing, but that is the weather. If it's raining, it's pouring. If it's not storming, there's barely a cloud in the sky.
Current Size: Skyrudder is a large city for its relatively short life span, and has a population of approximately two thousand five hundred. With the non-commercial Airships and Boats coming in all the time, the population is boosted by at least another one hundred at any given time. The main mix of the citizens, however, remains Elf/Human, though, more recently, more of the lesser races have been making their way to Skyrudder, hearing the words of the Watch.
Current Leader: The city is run by an enigmatic council known as ‘The Watch’. A group of them (many of them elven/half elven founders), still exist in the Watch. They are a group with a growing following that believe in the basic principle of ‘Home’ in associating with ‘Do on to others as you wish done on to you’. Their ethics are reflecting in their law, and their small society, as it’s a ‘work for your brothers as they work for you’. The city, however, in its three hundred years of existence, hasn't had one reported robbery or murder from its citizens. Only one incident recording two crews was recorded, and it was resolved by a banning of all parties from ever returning to Skyrudder.
Empire: Skyrudder serves under no Empire.
Militia: Skyrudder has a standing Militia of three hundred people; Most of them Citizens, and with other jobs on the side; Wranglers, Blacksmiths, Farmers. Their first profession, however, is combat. It is also rumored that quite a few high-ranking warriors and mages have decided to make Skyrudder their own personal retreat, and it can be assumed that they would take part in any armed conflicts.
