Port Arklamb
Location: On the coastline west and slightly north of Tyranoth.
Description: A major trading site, one of the largest port cities in Fou Lu. Port Arklamb is always bustling with activity, from trading vessels casting off, to commercial airships taking their maiden flights, to occasional bar fights between angry, drunken sailors. The docks encompass the entire west and north sides of the city, with warehouses present between the docks and the city proper. Two large structures stand prominent in the city: the Arklamb Lighthouse and Verin’s Tower, which is a clock tower attached to the city hall at the center of the town. On the south side of town is located Westlot Station, which runs trains to and from Tyranoth and northward along the coastline to the fishing villages as well as international airship flights.
History: Established in 290 A.R. as Tyranoth expanded its territories northward, Port Arklamb was originally a minor fishing village that found itself favored by tides and weather. By 310 A.R., the town was generating considerable trading profits. However, its growth slowed considerably with the outbreak of the Twelve Years’ War. Port Arklamb found itself at the center of a major battle in 317 A.R. and was consequentially devastated. However, loss of civilian life was kept to a minimum through the efforts of the half-elven knight Verin Lockley, who selflessly led efforts to escort civilians out of town and rescued those who needed his aid.
Following the war, Port Arklamb was rebuilt. However, during the reconstruction period and the subsequent period of weakness, raiding parties of bandits would plunder the town. Once again, Verin came to the rescue and took it upon himself to establish a strong militia capable of defending such attacks. Under his direction, the town remained safe from harm as it continued to grow. Eventually, seeing Verin’s deeds, the Tyranian emperor, Thantinas I, awarded Verin governorship over the northwestern province and had the tower constructed in his name.
Over the course of the next several years, Port Arklamb grew and grew into a bustling trading center. Its docks were expanded in addition to building a lighthouse and a train and airship station was constructed. In the 660s, whaling became a major part of Arklamb’s trade and presently, whale oil resides as its chief export.
Population: Just over a million people reside stably in Port Arklamb, consisting mostly of humans and elves, though goblins have a considerable presence in the city—even more so than dwarves.
Current Leader: The aging half-elven Governor Verin Lockley, who, though nearing the twilight of his days, still presides over Arklamb and the other towns of the northwestern province strongly. Charismatic and beloved by the people, many believe that he is a much more effective ruler than the present Tyranian emperor, Rale II, is.
Empire: Port Arklamb is a major city of the Empire of Tyranoth.
Militia: A force of about 20,000 volunteers is presently enrolled in the Arklamb militia. They are the main policing body and are responsible for the town’s defense. A garrison of 50,000 Tyranian soldiers exists within an hour’s train ride northward.
