The Farinthian Alliance
Location: From the western edges of Balorin to the Coral Rings of Farinthia, located to the northeast of Derendil.
Government: Both Farinthia and Balorin are monarchies, although led by different families. The Balorins praise King Enton, who is currently at the young age of thirty-two. He loves his people, and shows it generously, often coming out of his very pocket to make it a better place. It wasn’t always as beautiful as it has been recently, though. His family was once led by harsh tyrants who forced many of their people to the sea, long before the Mortal Wars.
Farinthia has stemmed from those men and women exiled. They took the same structure of government, and embraced it with religion. The city is run mainly by women, including the Queen. Currently, Queen Isabelle II watches over Farinthia. She is nearing her seventy-fifth birthday, and as years go by, she grows colder. Mainly through fear from the rising of their neighbors, Derendil, Queen Isabelle II has begun an operation run by several of those who once were aligned with the Weapons Project. The Coral Rings of Farinthia are no longer sites to only behold; they are also something to fear.
Population: Between both large cities, there are nearly two and a half million, mainly humans and elves. Balorin has currently grown in ogrin population, however.
Military: The male Farinthians are forced into arms at the age of 14, and are devoted to their land until they are too weak to wield a spear. Women can join as well, but they need to volunteer. Many women join as clerics, contributing to bringing their husbands home.
Balorin has only volunteers, although it is still large in number, compared to their overall population. However, they are very well trained. The high ranks occasionally brandish muskets, as well.
Both cities have combined their ship fleets, mainly because they are small in numbers. A small fort rests only a few miles away from Balorin, holding most of the Alliance’s airships. Off of the southern shores of Farinthia lies much of their navy.
History: Long before the Mortal Wars, the Balorins had a civil war. There were those that stood beside their King, and those that chose against him. In only a few short months, the land was doused in blood, and those left from the rebellion were exiled to the Coral Rings of Farinthia, where the last battle stood.
Many years passed, and even the Hands of Rein did not scrape through the Farinthian grounds. The Balorins believed it to be a graveyard, and it was believed to be the home of frosted souls.
Through the ignorance of the world, the Farinthians silently grew, living in an incredible maze formed over centuries of carving through great pillars of coral. They thrived off of the ocean, and prospered quickly. They soon formed a government around what they knew; the Balorins and Aidon. They brought the old teachings of the journey one Water Elemental must take.
During the growth of Farinthia, the Balorins noticed much change after King Jeremiah died one night in his sleep, after Rein’s grip of the world was released. The Kings to come –Jeremiah II, Lowell, Ferrard III, Jeremiah III, Uvera, and Enton- followed different etiquette. They loved their people, and showed it with every expense.
Then the plague of Sha-Liden struck, and the Balorins were forced to bring back old ways, and shunned the people of Sha-Liden back into the wastelands of the winglies. The Farinthians, after rumors that the plague spread through the water, silently followed the Balorins in their war marches. Some soldiers of Balorin noticed, but rather than being shocked at seeing ‘the living dead rise’, as the elders would often say, the soldiers were proud to see relatives from old, distant lives fight next to them.
After the plague was pushed into Sohar and the wall was built, the Balorins and Farinthians finally signed an alliance with one another, mainly in fear of another disease’s uprising.
Since then, their armies have increased, and their watch of the world has as well.
Culture: Farinthia has been a very rich cultural city since its birth. The people strongly believe in the words of Aidon, and everyone born there goes through a long, vigorous, and mandatory journey to reach personal greatness. Women are presented very highly compared to much of the world. Men mainly are the workers while women run the city.
Balorin’s culture is heavily economy-based. They can’t seem to get enough money. However, they do very little with their money. Most of it is used on making the city a more beautiful place to live. Even though it is a beautiful city to marvel upon, beyond that there is very little to show for how much money the Balorins actually own. The armies are well trained but poorly armored, and education is mainly about better ways to bring income, rather than knowledge about alchemy and various magics.
Advancements
Technological – Intermediate (although Balorin holds very impressive merchant ships)
Magic - Advanced (Mainly only through Farinthia. Balorin by itself would only be Intermediate)
