Conopoco, or in the Mihr Viyar tongue, "Bliss"
Location: Far north and east to Derendil’s core, just West of the center of the Farinthian Alliance.
Description: A small, secluded town. The forest of Thille surrounds it on three sides, to the west, north, and south. Much of the blame of Conopoco’s secrecy comes to the Thille Forest, as it is a very thick and prosperous wood. The eastern edge of the town rests against the sandy beaches of the Farinthian sea. How long it has been there is unknown, based on the fact that very little has been written on Conopoco. It is said by those that inhabit it, the Mihr Viyar people, that it was here when the Gods were still carving the earth.
The Mihr Viyar are peaceful folk, and rely mainly on themselves to survive. They are, on average, much larger than those from much of the world, by both height and girth. With their size, they have attuned to harpooning their crop. They are incredibly religious, and much of their teachings are still unknown, although it is said that they are in fact toward the Goddess of the Lake, Aidon. They stand strong behind their beliefs, but do not preach them to others.
Much of their crop rests on fishing, and long, thin docks stretch far into the sea. On each dock rests many rafts, excellently crafted with their simplicity. Long, wide, and thin wood is used for the Mihr Viyars to wade on, waiting for the fish that inhabit the surrounding area. They also happen to be the largest recorded species of fish, and have been known to swallow entire men. These fish also often swim in small schools, holding nearly ten fish at a time.
History: Looking in the past of Conopoco is difficult, as the Mihr Viyars are not eager to share it. It is known that the forest of Thille is an old forest, and not an easy one to travel within. It is also known that Farinthia to the east had not been discovered until recently, and that many attempts were taken to drive up the coastline for topographical reasons, but many ventures failed from strange occurrences, like disease and shaking sands. But the Mihr Viyars promise that the land is not cursed, only that She is ever watchful on her most loved ones, as they say.
There are also recordings dating back to as far as the Battle of the Apocalypse, where the brothers Rein and Nol collided, that several dozen incredibly large men were there among men of Balorin. But not much more has been said other than that they stood as giants among these men, and wore very light armor. They stood silent and strong within the clash of dragina.
The small town had only been recently discovered, and it was on accident. Well organized squadrons of Derendilian soldiers were sent out to comb the encompassing lands for resources and boundaries, hoping to push both to their fullest.
After several months of trudging through the thick forest, they came upon Conopoco, and were greeted whole-heartedly. The Mihr Viyars treated them with feast after feast, and gave them homes to sleep.
Four months passed, and a small company of men was sent from Derendil to find those that have wandered away. They eventually came across Conopoco while following the tracks of previous horse hooves. There, they found every last of their soldiers, pampered to the fullest extent. They were treated more like men of the Mihr Viyars than of visitors of this lost town.
The squadrons were somehow dragged away from the peace and quiet, and the rushing of waves, back to speak of it to the Derendilian people. They found it fascinating, as did much of those who still wanted land. Soon after the men came home, they were sent back, but this time bearing an entire wagon-load of paperwork. The Derendilians were going to own that land, and they were going to it the “civilized way,” as many of the government officials so frequently spoke.
The Mihr Viyars, surprisingly agreed to much of the offers splayed out before them, but maintained the option of staying a general secret to the rest of the world. They enjoyed the peace, and while they also enjoyed the occasional company of newcomers, they did not expect settlers to venture in and live in the Thille forest surrounding their village.
Derendil agreed, and to this day is keeping only a small squadron out for protection, but the Mihr Viyars have a joke running through their people. “The men of armor are little, and the fish will likely eat them.” It is also said that the Mihr Viyars have a stale sense of humor.
Population: The numbers are slim, only at a few thousand. The Derendilians army does have a fort or two within the Thille forest, but even then, they are mostly filled with a voluntary militia, who just so happen to love where they live.
Current Leader: Hoppu Groppu, the eldest of the Mihr Viyars, speaks only what needs to be spoken. And the people of Conopoco follow.
Government: It is a loosely formed government, based on the age of their people. The eldest run it, and the age below them govern much of the simplicities of their life, like farming and building.
Empire: Small flags of Derendil dance outside the walls of Thille.
Army: The men of the Mihr Viyars are all very skillful with their harpoons, but do not use them toward war. The Derendil militia is the only organized army in the surrounding area.
