Andalios
Location: A Water Elemental island off the north coast of Andriath.
Description: Andalios is one of the oldest of the new cities. Construction of Keldremad's capitol began in 270 A.R with the intention that it be as similar to the fortress-island Peldane as possible; as such, the inner elements of the city are highly defensible and imposing, while structures designed after the original city are far more fitting for a city of merchants. The overall architectural feel is Dzanatori, with the inner city's buildings more reminiscent of Dragina styles.
History: At the end of the War of Stone and Flame, the great fortresses of the Dragina Empire had all fallen. The Five Spires were toppled, Peldane was destroyed from within, and strategic points the world over had been razed by either opportunistic locals or the warring Templar. The largest fortress of any size remaining was a supply depot being used by forces loyal to Keldris, an enclave hidden on a relatively large island north of Andriath. Maps gave the island no name, and even the fortress itself was only known as Sleeping Steel.
However, after the fall of the Emerald Spire, Keldris was in no position to argue with a place he could defend himself from.
In 270 A.R. Keldris moved his General Staff to Sleeping Steel and ordered the enlargement of the outpost, complete with a new proto-Spire. Walls, barracks, towers, keeps, harbors, and training grounds all took shape under the ex-Templar's martial eye. In ten years' time, the newly-named Andalios was officially decreed the capitol of the nation of Keldremad. By 300 A.R., the various mage training facilities were consolidated into a single organization under Keldris' direct control and named collectively the Andalios Academy. By 350 A.R, Andalios was well on its way to becoming the city it is in present day- outside the somber walls of inner Andalios the commercial districts were beginning to grow, new housing districts had formed, and a host of new influences were making themselves known...
Andalios' growth has been effectively stopped by the size of the island on which it rests- magi have proposed raising the sea floor to allow for further growth, but the mage-king himself has firmly quashed said proposals.
Population: Andalios is a city of two million (?) people, making it small for a capitol city.
Current Leader: Nominally, Mage-King Keldris Andaliun. Effectively, however, the human Governor Tir Galgannon, runs the city.
Government: Governor Galgannon has two bodies of advisors. The first, the Lower House, is chosen by the various guilds to represent their interests. The second, the Upper House, consists of people appointed by either him or the Mage-King as experts in their various fields. The only power they hold over Governor Galgannon, however, is their ability to with a majority vote in both Houses officially bring a complaint before the Mage-King.
Effectively, Keldris chose the Governor, he can do whatever he wants until Keldris decides that he's overstepped his bounds.
Empire: Andalios is the capitol of the mage-kingdom Keldremad.
Army: A sizeable division of the Green Legions is in charge of the defense of Keldremad at all times. (numbers mutable.)
