Artifacts are all over the surface of Fou Lu. Some are of great power, created by the gods themselves. Others are just shiny rocks people picked up and considered holy for some reason or another. Many artifacts of both sorts are scattered across this nice little planet of ours, so because of that we took it upon ourselves to create an inventory of those that matter or don't. Periodically updated incase new ones are discovered or catalogued, or even both. So let's get started shall we.
The Atma and the Dark Frost.
In a time when dragons thrived, two noble blades were forged from the rarest of metals.
The scales from two of Primus’ strongest dragons decayed in an unfamiliar cave, ultimately producing into pristine, mysterious metals. Within their dragon blood, lay hideous power, in which could not be controlled by the strongest of the Human kings.
From the depths of an unknown abyss, the color of azure and crimson glimmered in the sparkling sunlight. There, a small, pudgy –but very experienced- dwarven blacksmith stood in awe, admiring the unknown metals. A thought provoked his simple blacksmith mind: "The Gods have graced me today to admire such brilliant metals. I must forge them into great swords.”
And so the legend began. One cherry blade in the shape of the bringer of fire, and the other, a cobalt blue bearing the shape of an indestructible sliver of ice, both of which were created with the same patience and might. But there was something that the dwarven blacksmith did not know.
Millennia past, the blacksmith fell, as did several others who grasped the blades. Soon, the Atma and the Frost parted, and separated into opposite shrouds of Fou Lu.
A dragina historian took hold of the Atma, and immediately knew of it's past. The stains of the days of old blanketed the sharpness of the metal. He studied it thoroughly, and thus, he named the fiery blade after the dragon before it.
The sword of the Frost, however, did not have such a simple journey. It was tarnished in the blood of war, and in the hatred of sin. Evil tainted the blade, and a noble by the name of Thorne came across the Frost in the swollen battlefield of his homeland.
He kept the sword close, closer than his wife, and from his psychic lineage, Thorne knew of the Frost's previous whereabouts, and saved the sword from further corruption. He gave it the proper name of the Dark Frost, for its creation and of its recent malevolent past. The Legend of Thorne carried on, with the Dark Frost tightly in his grasp, and that legend is still told to children by the elderly today.
Eventually, however, the swords crossed paths once more. Two twin dragina, Rein and Nol, soon carried the blades. Whether they received it from theft or from agonizing battles; that does not matter. The blades clashed at the Great Battle of the Apocalypse, and now are lost once again.
The Hammer of the Ages
A long time ago, there was a dwarven smith with the ability to craft any weapon with flawless perfection. In addition, this dwarf had the ability to imbue his crafts with the powers of fire. For years, no one knew his secret. Shortly after his death however, his son, an apprentice blacksmith, used his father's hammer to craft an axe. When he wielded it in battle against an assailing orc outside of his home, he was shocked to see runic writing flash across the flat of the axe's blade. Immediately following these runes, the axeblade burst into flames, destroying the orc in short order.
It didn't take long for the young smith to boast of his "abilities" to others in his community. It also didn't take long for word to spread outside the community, and for neighboring armies to attempt to take the hammer by force. During the chaos, the hammer passed among many hands. Some knew of its powers, others did not. Where exactly it has gone in recent days is all but unknown.
The hammer itself is rather unremarkable. Its handle is black, with small grey dots scattered on it to help the user's grip. The head of the hammer is ash white, and will never be stained by soot or burn from a fire.
The Six Godly Orbs of Fou Lu
Far back in time, near the beginning of Fou Lu, the five main dieties had a meeting. They had made animals, people, rocks, volcanos, all manner of things, but none was especially fulfilling to them, after all, omnipotence makes any task, impressive as it may seem, fairly dull and easy. And that was when Mercu, the hotheaded fellow which he is, piped in a suggestion, why not shove their essence into a few stones? Sort of ancient magical artifacts for future generations to covet and search for. They could all hide them in places and have a little scavenger hunt for their favorite races. Of course the other gods had many things to say about how it was cruel and heartless... but eventually they saw the inherent fun of ulling elves and such by the noses so five magical stones were quite suddenly brought into existance, each with it's own perks and abilities, and oddly enough personality. These gods were so powerful they made living stones. How impressive. But then the fun was cut short. Althena arrived. She didn't exactly approve of just creating super powerful items. And so just to show how dangerous they were she herself made a jewel possibly twice as large as the others and ten times as powerful. Such children those gods.
Individually catalogued we have.
The Godly Orb of Mercu
Mercu's Glory, the nickname for the legendary precious jewel otherwise known as the Elf Stone. It is rumored that the Elf Stone was created by the fiery god during the height of power of the race of Elves. During this time, it was said that Mercu made the beautiful red stone from a drop of his blood, the hottest molten lava, a piece of ruby, and a drop of blood of one of his sons, the Elf King, Galgallas. Mercu gave it to the then-young ruler of the Elves as a gift and stated that as long as he had it, his power will be unmatched by any in strength and speed. Time passed, and the Elf King sure enough became one of the greatest warrior ever seen during his time. In battle, no one could touch him nor could they outwrestle him and he became feared among all, including the Winglies, the then-greatest threat to the Elves prosperity.
During a traditional great hunt held each year, Galgallas walked inside a forest and found the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was a Wingly, with long elegant wings, a delicate, stunningly gorgeous figure, a serene, beautiful face, and an elegant dress. He fell madly in love with her and when she sprinted away, laughing with joy, he pursued her, going further away from his fellow Elfmen. He continued following her until he reached a clearing where she stood in the middle, in all her glory. Galgallas walked up to her, completely mesmorized, and became unaware of a group of Wingly archers, hiding behind the trees. They took aim and fired their arrows, succesfully wounding Galgallas, who realized too late that she had tricked him. The archers closed in, holding long blades, and attacked the seriously injured elf. However, Galgallas proved too deadly a foe, and he slew nearly all of them, save two and the Wingly girl. He finally collapsed and died, whispering forgiveness to his people and his father. The two Winglies, Sahagin and Ellegus, then buried their dead while the female, Isis, picked up the Elf Stone from the dead body of Galgallas and pocketed it. The three then flew off to their capital and presented it to their ruler who tried to activate but to no avail. Mercu's Glory could only be used by one with the blood of an elf. Enraged by this, the Wingly ruler threw the stone into the sea where it has disappeared for centuries. It was then found by a fisherman who kept it and was then stolen by a thief who sold it to a merchant who lost it and was then found by a kid who threw it and was caught by a dog who gave it to his master who was the owner of a certain tournament. He used it as a special prize for the winner of the tournament along with another stone. Two warriors made it to the finals of this tournament, Belgarion the Great and Gren Elfking, who fought each other to a draw, and so therefore, acquired the stones. Since Gren was half-elf, he was able to activate the Elf Stone and has used it ever since until the final battle against Rein. After the battle was won, Gren put himself into a coma. The Elf Stone was then stolen by a thief and no one now knows where it is.
The Godly Orb of Volkain
At that table years ago when they decided to create these stones Volkain stood up and floated out of the room to his own temple in the sky. From there he sent his close followers to the ground to find the most perfect gem to create this orb from. So they went, but all returned with nothing, in the almost eternal emnity between Dio and Volkain, Dio took the opportunity to conceal every beautiful stone possible from his brother. Volkain sighed and put the task off for a number of years. One day he was walking on the ground, in an odd change of pace, and kicked a rock, the rock was a dull grey thing, oddly spherical but not particularly pretty. It was maybe the size of a small child's fist and Volkain picked it up to examine it. He then smiled and brought it with him to his temple. He was a god after all, and all things reacted to such power. The second he had touched that rock a light blue aura encompassed it suddenly and it had begun to to flash yellow lights in cheerfulness. Volkain polished the stone to his own version of perfection, and then almost negligently dropped it from his temple into an ancient Human village. The humans thought it to be a holy object from above... which it was, so anyone is entitled to correct superstitions one would suppose, and they worshipped the stone for a few weeks and then lost it. The stone appeared to get bored and rolled away somehow. It moved around quite a lot, being sold at merchant bazaars or being stolen by some thief who didn't quite know why. It usually stayed with a person who used it for fun things, such as wars and fighting, and the occasional threat, but leaves when that person dies.
The rock's powers seem to grow the more one has it, Volkain merely tossed his own power into the stone with no restrictions, with practice the orb offers supreme control over the air element, of course nobody ever had it long enough, or skillfully enough to use it for mass weather changes and other things but the power is there. More directly if the stone is attached to a weapon of a sort the weapon will be enhanced by the holy blue fire of Volkain, a cold, electric fire, useful for exploding Demon Kings. It also lowers the weight of said weapon exponentially, and makes the wielder much more athletic.
The Godly Orb of Thanatos
This purple crystal doesn't seem to have one deffinite shape. At times it has been reported as perfectly round, or like anatural crystal formation, andonce even as a carved statue of sorts. The Orb changes with each possessor, their perception warping it. This is always the first power displayed by the Orb, making thought reality, though only in this small way.
It is said that Thanatos fashioned it from one of the crystals which carry the Psychic elemental energies. Thanatos imbued it with a small part of his psyche, making the Orb capable of surviving through its own will. It has been know to teleport its possessor away from battle, or sometimes to simply disappear as if running from danger.
After the small changes to reality caused by the perception of the possessor, the powers of the Orb come to each mind at a different rate. It usually starts with the ability to teleport great distances with amazing accuracy. To those who haven't trained in it, a small amount of telepathy develops; those who have trained in it find their telepathic abilities sharpened to an astounding degree. Next comes telekinesis, though usually this manifests before telepathy in those possessors who are more prone to fighting.
Beyond the teleportation, telekinesis, and telepathy very little is known about the capabilities of the Orb. It usually seems to find a reason to flee from an owner after not very long, and seems to be a rather unpredictable Orb. In legend, one of the first owners unlocked more than this. The mage was all ready skilled in telepathy and telekinesis, and could teleport as well. He claimed that after some time he was actually able to create bigger displacements of reality using his thoughts. He is also the one that determined that the perception of the owner changes the shape of the Orb. He seemed to simply stop existing after a time, and no record of his name, age, or living place has ever turned up. Many credit this to the Orb and his power to control it.
The Aegis Eyelet
An old artifact dating back possibly thousands of years ago. Unknown who it's maker was or what it's made out of, but it allows he/she who has it worn see things as they are supposed to be. It can see in different perspectives, such as a night vision, or infrared, as it sits over the right eye. It can also give information to the user on cirtain things, such as people in the area, like what element they are, height, weight, race, and overall possiblilty to be beaten by the wearer, and other most likely useless information.
Now, in the currently incapable hands of Melody and Eve, she uses it brashly, not quite understanding it, but finding some uses, as it saves her skin once in a while, allowing her to see an arrow coming, or find a hiding target. Problem is, she doesn't know how to work it, and sometimes, it tends to screw up her vision. Also causes her headaches as it's clamped down tightly and halfway impossible to get off!
The Star Stone of Elessadin
The Star Stone of Elessadin dates back many years in history. The jewel was, apparently, similar in appearance to that of a sapphire. It was small enough to fit in a person's palm, and gave off a brilliant shine when exposed directly to sunlight. However, those who do not know what it is perceive it only as a smooth, black stone. Those who fear it see it as a red ruby, and must resist the urge to flinch when light refracts off of its crimson surface.
The remarkable thing about the Star Stone is not its appearance, however. It is said that this jewel has the ability to "Expose mistruths, lies, and guises as clearly as the evening stars." This is believed to be the origin of the term "Star Stone," but how the name "Elessadin" is linked to this artifact is all but unknown.
If the stone, which has a limited apathy to those around it, senses one who is searching with all of their strength of spirit for the truth, then it will be shown to that person in one of two forms. If the person is working for the greater good, then the Star Stone will appear as a brilliant sapphire. If the person is working for the greater evil, then the Star Stone will appear as a harshly glowing ruby.
If anyone acquires the Star Stone in either form, then they will be able to utilize it. However, if they take the Star Stone when it is a black stone will not be able to use it until they encounter an intense need for the truth. Only those who figure out its purpose, either from direct knowledge or from demonstrations of its powers, may use the Star Stone consciously. Otherwise, they merely have a heightened intuition about truth and fallacy.
The Star Stone, when used consciously, has certain effects. First of all, if a person who lies while the power of the Star Stone is in play, then the jewel will glow a bright red for all to see, and the user will know beyond a doubt that they are lying. It is important to note that the user will still have to convince others of this lie.
If the owner of the Star Stone lies, however, the stone will glow red for all to see, and the person or persons he or she is lying to will perceive the lie. This will happen, regardless of whether the owner knows the powers of the Star Stone or not.
The Baneblades
A set of weapons forged before the great war 250 years ago. Each one was made of a black metal forged from a rock that was found deep in the earth. Forged by 2 men, and 2 dwarve, A inward curving Sword, a pair of Tongfers, a two handed toothed Axe, a pair of Claws, a Scythe, a Lance, a Staff, a Knife, and a cross shaped Charm.
The metal is dense and shines dull. It is supposed to be impossible to break and each one has different runes carved into each one. Every one seems to have a different ability, but no one knows how to bring it out.
The weapons were distributed back when they were forged, each to a member of the Baneblade family. That was way back then, and the Baneblades were participants in the war, each taking different sides. Though none of the Baneblades were reported dead, their weapons have disappeared and have been scattered across the globe. Now, many years later, they've been reactivating. Some have found them, and they draw the bearers to each other. Who's to say what will happen when they all get back together again...
Sword of Chaos
Long ago before “The Great War” a power and mighty sword was forged In Mercu’s castle. The handle was made from the hardest rock of the land, that can only be found deep within the earth surface. It took many years to forge the handle into the perfect shape of a volcano with lava going down its side it show great detail, and it was so strong that Mercu decided to make a sword for himself using the handle. Mercu used a mixture of his own blood and stone to forge a blade for the sword, and he combined the two into one. The powers of the sword were great as mighty has anything Mercu has ever held. The sword was a living part of Mercu it predicted moves and almost had a mind of its own, and since it was made from the blood of Mercu it could cut though the most powerful substances with ease. During battle the sword was said to burn as hot as the sun, and the blade would burst into fire. Everything around the holder would melt or catch fire, but the holder wouldn’t be affected by the fire as he passed though it without care. Meru named the weapon “ Sword of Chaos” because he knew if the sword ever fell into a mortal’s hands it would cause great Chaos to the world.
The sword was used only once during battle, but that one time was enough to destroy a city and their army without the user getting a cut. Mercu gave his mighty sword to one of his loyal followers to test out, but the power of the sword drove the follower crazy and he began a killing spree murdering many families and destroying cities. Mercu knew that he had to get the sword back and hind the sword from the world so that no one would ever hold that much power in their hands. Mercu asked for the sword back but the follower refused to hand over the power he held in his hands and tried to attack Mercu. Mercu killed the power mad follower, and took the sword to his secret temple deep inside “Mercu’s Burning Lake.” The sword rests to this day inside that temple waiting for someone to find it, and caring it into battle.
